Balancing my three-legged stool.

It was only last year around this time when I started the process of applying to B-Schools, working on my essays, meeting students, admissions staff from various schools, doing class visits etc. and now here I am already in the school. Seems incredible!

Coming from India, where style of education is very different from the US, I was not exactly sure of what to expect here in terms of teaching style of professors, course content etc. But I have to say that I have been pleasantly surprised. I was told that in the US education system, emphasis is more on learning class participation, extracurriculars and not just grades but I did not really understand how seriously all these aspects are applied to the entire learning experience. After spending last three weeks in the Jump Start and the Lead week here at the school, I am getting to know what it exactly means.

One thing, I have been hearing over and over again is that to get the best out of this program, we need to treat it as a three-legged stool - and the three legs are: academics, activities and career search. And if we don't focus on either of three, we will not be able to get the overall experience and benefits out of the program. Though I completely agree with that, but it is certainly easier said than done. There are only so many hours in a day and there is only so much we can do. But at the same time, if I wanted an easier life I wouldn't have gone through all the effort to get admitted into an MBA program. Therefore, I think today I commit myself to keep my three-legged stool balanced and get the best MBA experience out of these two years:)
